Campus SummaryTOP

Characterized as a center of excellence, York College, located in southeast Queens, embodies the essential qualities of a major university: a strong liberal arts foundation, an illustrious faculty, academic and co-curricular programs, cooperative education, and career planning. York is committed to providing academic excellence through teaching and learning, research and scholarship, and public service to traditionally underserved populations.

Founded in 1966, York is recognized as a national leader in educating a multi-ethnic, urban student population. York awards baccalaureate degrees in more than 40 majors in the liberal arts, natural and social sciences, and a broad array of career-oriented programs. Students are drawn to the campus from all across the city and around the world for the academic and co-curricular programs, the flexibility and the illustrious faculty, the diversity and the dedication, the convenience and the cost.

The college moved to its Academic Core of its fifty-acre campus in 1986, offering a 6,600-square-foot microcomputer center, computer graphics and music labs, and a modern 174,911-volume library. The college also operates a 1,500-seat auditorium, a 150-seat theater, and a health and physical education facility featuring an indoor and all-weather track, tennis and handball courts, Olympic-sized swimming pool, and soccer field.

Unique/Special ProgramsTOP

York’s curriculum is designed to give students a firm and broad base in the liberal arts and permit specialization in a career or professional field. The educational experience also reflects an ongoing commitment to the surrounding community, affording students the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research, community service, field placements, and internships.

York will soon add a Physician’s Assistant baccalaureate program to its established Allied Health Professions discipline. The college will thus be placed in the unique position of being able to train a wide range of health care professionals who will enter their professions equipped to respond to the demands of the industry.

Some of the programs offered at York College are unique to public institutions in Queens County. York is the only public four-year institution in the county to offer programs in social work and upper-division nursing (RN/BSN). It is also the only college in The City University of New York to offer undergraduate programs in biotechnology, gerontology, information systems management, occupational therapy, and information system management.

ALERT: An institution's inclusion in these searches does NOT imply approval of the institution or its programs by the U.S. Department of Education.
