Established in 1929, the Academy of Art College, San Francisco, is the largest accredited private art college in the nation, offering degrees both on campus or online. Its 13 departments include: Architecture (MFA only), Advertising, Computer Arts, Fashion, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Illustration, Industrial Design, Interior Architecture & Design, Motion Pictures & Television, and Photography, Animation/VFX, Digital Arts & Communications.

The Academy provides a cutting-edge curriculum, extraordinary faculty, and state-of-the-art facilities to ensure that all its 9,500 students will be capable of creating a professional-level portfolio needed to obtain jobs with top studios and design companies.

San Francisco, is ripe with commercial opportunities. Artistic and Academic institutions thrive alongside business and technology of every conceivable size and scope. The Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf, Telegraph Hill, Union Square and cable cars are all visible from windows in one of the Academy’s 25 buildings.

Academy students work very hard, but they also need to unwind. Northern California offers a myriad of attractions and activities when class is out and homework assignments completed. Not only do students like to visit the dozens of museums and cultural icons of San Francisco-opera, ballet, symphony, and theaters—but they also enjoy the coffee houses, clubs, concerts, amusement parks and restaurants. International student organizations plan cross-cultural events that introduce students to the best of American culture.

The Academy's facilities reflect its commitment to training students for careers in art and design; not only do students have access to some of the most advanced facilities in the nation, but the Academy continually invests in new equipment to ensure that the college remains on the cutting edge of technology. By learning on industry-standard equipment, students gain valuable professional techniques that make them highly employable.

The Academy's eight-story Digital Arts Center offers students from the Computer Arts, Motion Pictures and Television, Advertising, and Fashion Departments access to an incredible array of technology. The center has more than 700 computer workstations, including more than 100 Silicon Graphics workstations, 300 Adobe Premier workstations, and more than 200 autoCAD workstations. Students also have the use of fourteen Avid digital editing suites, seven multitrack sound editing studios, one dedicated blue screen studio, and various other video equipment.

The photography department occupies its own building and shares half of another Academy building with the fine arts, painting, and printmaking department. Photography students can utilize a wide range of equipment, including full-length shooting studios; Hasselblad, Mamyia, Canon, and Sinar cameras; Broncolor, Norman, and Speedotron strobe systems; seven black-and-white darkrooms; a color lab facility with fifteen single-print stations; and the latest technology, including six MAC G5 computers, for digital imaging and output. In addition, the Academy's modern, professional studio is one of the largest of any photography school in the nation and is ideal for shooting automobiles, motorcycles, and large sets.

The Academy's Fine Art Sculpture Center is a 58,000-square-foot facility that houses state-of-the-art studios for figure, ceramic, neon/illumination, bronze, metal fabrication, and mold-making sculpture. Students also have use of an off-site bronze-casting facility.

When students graduate from the Academy, they have the opportunity to exhibit in one of four nonprofit galleries in the heart of downtown San Francisco's premier gallery district. These street-level facilities are an excellent way for students to promote and sell their work and to gain networking experience.

The Academy's facilities allow students to pursue their studies in an environment that is geared toward an outstanding career preparation. The college's emphasis on upgrading equipment and facilities means that students benefit from the latest technology and enter the job market with a valuable set of skills.
