Description

Drive a truck or van with a capacity of under 26,000 GVW, primarily to deliver or pick up merchandise or to deliver packages within a specified area. May require use of automatic routing or location software. May load and unload truck.

No previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is needed for these occupations. For example, a person can become a general office clerk even if he/she has never worked in an office before.

Education

These occupations may require a high school diploma or GED certificate. Some may require a formal training course to obtain a license.

Training

Employees in these occupations need anywhere from a few days to a few months of training. Usually, an experienced worker could show you how to do the job.

Tasks

  • Communicates with base or other vehicles using telephone or radio.
  • Presents billing invoice and collects receipt or payment.
  • Performs emergency roadside repairs.
  • Inspects and maintains vehicle equipment and supplies.
  • Drives truck, van or automobile with capacity under 3 tons to transport materials, products, or people.
  • Maintains records such as vehicle log, record of cargo, or billing statements in accordance with regulations.
  • Loads and unloads truck, van, or automobile.
