Description

Set up or set up and operate audio and video equipment, including microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables, sound and mixing boards, and related electronic equipment, for concerts, sports events, meetings and conventions, presentations, and news conferences. May also set up and operate associated spotlights and other custom lighting systems.

Experience

A minimum of two to four years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is needed for these occupations. For example, an accountant must complete four years of college and work for several years in accounting to be considered qualified.

Education

Most of these occupations require a four-year bachelor's degree, but some do not.

Training

Employees in these occupations usually need several years of work-related experience, on-the-job training, and/or vocational training.

Tasks

  • Determines format, approach, content, level, and medium to meet objectives most effectively within budgetary constraints, utilizing research, knowledge, and training.
  • Locates and secures settings, properties, effects, and other production necessities.
  • Constructs and positions properties, sets, lighting equipment, and other equipment.
  • Develops manuals, texts, workbooks, or related materials for use in conjunction with production materials.
  • Develops production ideas based on assignment or generates own ideas based on objectives and interest.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of assistants and other personnel during production.
  • Conducts training sessions on selection, use, and design of audiovisual materials, and operation of presentation equipment.
  • Performs narration or presents announcements.
  • Executes, or directs assistants to execute, rough and finished graphics and graphic designs.
  • Plans and develops preproduction ideas into outlines, scripts, continuity, storyboards, and graphics, or directs assistants to develop ideas.
  • Sets up, adjusts, and operates equipment, such as cameras, sound mixers, and recorders, during production.
